Founded in 1927 by local winegrowers, Bodega Protos is the oldest wine company in Spain’s Ribera Del Duero. Wine experts nurture the 1,400ha vineyards throughout the growing process to ensure their high quality.
The company’s stunning main winery in Peñafiel, designed by famous British architect Sir Richard Rogers and opened in 2008, hosts over 40,000 visitors a year, making it one of the region’s most-visited tourist attractions.

Protos Roble

Protos Roble is an elegant Spanish red wine made with grapes from the vineyards of Ribera del Duero. It experiences 6 months of ageing in American oak barrels. Bright cherry red in colour with a purple rim, typical of the Tempranillo grape. Frank and intense, where aromas of red and black fruit stand out, accompanied by spicy and light toasted notes. Protos Roble has a good structure. It is fruity and fresh, with a sweet tone of oak and pleasant soft tannins. Protos Roble pairs well with tomato-based dishes, such as pasta Pomodoro, puttanesca, stuffed eggplant, etc. Chistorra, salami, cheese.

Protos Crianza

Protos Crianza expresses the terroir of the Ribera del Duero, taking you through a journey of a timeless land. Its grapes originate from the Burgos and Valladolid vineyards. Protos Crianza experiences 12 months in French and American oak barrels before a further 12 months in bottle. Cherry red in colour with purple rim indicating its youth. High aromatic intensity, with the aroma of ripe fruits well assembled with wood that brings aromas of sweet spices and pleasant toasted notes. It is an enveloping wine, tasty, balanced, with finesse and pleasant maturity. It has a finish of ripe fruit. Roasted vegetables and meats, carpaccio, fabada and Iberian ham are complemented by a glass of Protos Crianza. Gold Medal Challenge International du Vin and Gold Medal Mundus Vini.

Protos Verdejo

A dry and refreshing Spanish white wine made with the highest quality Verdejo de Rueda grapes. Straw yellow in colour with green hints that reflect its youth and are typical of the Verdejo de Rueda grape variety. Aromas of tropical fruits and citrus fruits first appear along with white fruits and herbs, such as boxwood and fennel. On the palate, Protos Verdejo is dry with an elegant balance of freshness and acidity. It has a soft mouthfeel due to the time spent on its lees and a long, slightly bitter finish, typical of the variety. Protos '27

Protos’ 27 is a homage to the eleven visionaries that founded Protos in 1927. The dream is more alive today than ever before with Protos 27’, a unique wine made of 100% Tinto Fino grapes. Protos 27 is made using the finest grapes from a variety of vineyards in the Burgos Province and aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels. Intense cherry red in colour, with violet hues resulting in a very vivid and bright wine. It has fresh scents and original aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet spices and fine toasted notes. Protos ’27 is a very balanced and easy-to-drink wine, with round tannins and a long, pleasant finish. BBQ, lamb, stews and even seafood with strong sauces suit the round tannins of Protos 27.
